Your first measurement establishes the starting point of a profile’s timeline.
In Formetrix, a measurement is a snapshot of your body at a specific moment. Everything that follows — trends, cumulative views, interpretation, and visual comparison — builds on these snapshots.
For guidance on taking measurements consistently and pragmatically, refer to measurement-best-practices.
Starting a New Measurement
From the Profile Home → Body Composition Module, expand the actions button and tap on the Start New Measurement.
This opens the Measurement Setup dialog, where you configure how this measurement session will behave.
Measurement Setup
Selecting Visible Measurement Points
Before starting, you can choose which set of measurement points are visible for this session.
This selection controls only the interface:
-
It affects which pointers are shown during input
-
It does not reset or remove existing values
-
It can be changed later from Settings → Pointer Presets
This allows you to focus only on the measurements you intend to update. Refer to this table for an easier setup.
Starting From Scratch or Carrying Over Values
You can choose how to initialize the measurement:
-
Start from scratch
All fields begin empty. You enter only the values you measure.
-
Carry over values
Pre-fills fields using existing data, which you can then update selectively.
Carry-over sources include:
-
a previous measurement
-
or the cumulative view
This makes it easy to update only what changed, without re-entering stable measurements.
Entering Measurements
Once the measurement input session starts, Formetrix switches to Input Mode.
Measurement Points
-
Tap any measurement pointer to fill it
-
Enter the value directly in the corresponding input field
-
Each field has realistic bounds and validation to prevent accidental or invalid input
The banner at the top of the screen shows the currently active measurement point, helping you stay oriented during input.
Live Calculations & Feedback
While entering values, Formetrix continuously evaluates your input.
Interpretation Indexes (Live)
At the bottom of the screen, an expandable action button opens a live preview of Interpretation Indexes.
-
Values update in real time as you enter measurements
-
Indexes become active only when required inputs are present
-
Disabled indexes clearly indicate which inputs are missing
Composition Estimates
Click the More Indexes button (the calculator icon) during an input session to access all Composition Metrics. Each composition metric can be manually entered, imported, or automatically estimated using the Magic Wand button — hover over it to see more details about the estimation method.
-
Each estimation function shows whether its requirements are met
-
When all required inputs are available, the function becomes active
-
Tapping an active function allows you to apply the estimate
-
If requirements are missing, the function remains disabled
This makes it clear what can be calculated and why.
Saving the Measurement
When you are satisfied with your inputs, tap Save.
Before finalizing, Formetrix runs a completeness check.
Missing Calculations Check
If there are composition metrics that could be calculated but were not yet applied, a dialog appears offering options such as:
-
Automatically estimating available composition values
(using your configured estimation order from the Composition Metrics Auto Estimator)
-
Continuing without estimating and saving only entered values
This step ensures you don’t accidentally skip useful calculations.
Measurement Details
After validation, the Save Measurement dialog opens.
Here you can:
-
Set a measurement alias (optional); allowing you to track measurement easier overtime
-
Add notes (optional)
-
Adjust the measurement date and time if needed
Once confirmed, the measurement is saved to the profile timeline.
After Saving
After saving:
-
The profile returns to View Mode
-
Values become part of the profile history
-
Cumulative and interpretation views update accordingly
Your first measurement now serves as the reference point for future comparisons and insights.
Important Notes
-
You do not need to enter every measurement every time
-
Unchanged values can be carried forward via the cumulative view or a previous measurement
-
Accuracy comes from consistency, not completeness in a single session
Formetrix is designed to support long-term tracking, not perfect one-time measurements.
Next Steps
After your first measurement, you can:
-
Review trends as they develop
-
Add visual records in Body Studio
-
Refine interpretation through additional measurements over time
