Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
🩺 How should I interpret health-related indexes in Formetrix?
Formetrix indexes are designed to provide context and insight, not medical diagnoses. They help you understand trends, proportions, and relative changes in your body over time.
These indexes should be read as interpretive signals — useful for tracking direction, consistency, and response to changes — but not as definitive health judgments.
When health concerns arise, Formetrix data can support conversations, but clinical evaluation and professional guidance remain essential.
🤔 Is Formetrix only for athletes or fitness enthusiasts?
No. Formetrix is built for anyone who wants to understand their body better over time. Whether your goal is general health, fat loss, rehabilitation, performance, or long-term stability, Formetrix adapts to your context and goal — not the other way around.
⚖️ Do I need special equipment to use Formetrix?
No. Formetrix works with simple measurements you can take yourself. If you have access to body composition devices or clinical scans, you can use them. If you don’t, Formetrix is designed to remain useful — without forcing gaps or incomplete profiles.
⭐ I still don’t understand — how is Formetrix different from using a smart scale?
Scales and smart scale apps combine measurement and interpretation into a single, device-bound system. While many store history and show trends, the meaning of those trends remains tightly coupled to the device’s internal estimation logic and assumptions.
> This creates a closed loop: the same system that produces the estimate is also responsible for validating and explaining it. When values fluctuate due to hydration, training phase, illness, timing, or protocol differences, the app typically reports the output without distinguishing noise from meaningful change.
Formetrix separates these roles. Measurements—whether from a scale, smart scale, clinical device (such as DEXA or MRI), or manual entry—are treated as inputs, while interpretation happens at the profile level, informed by multiple signals over time.
This enables cross-validation. A composition estimate can be evaluated alongside anthropometric measurements, visual progress, symmetry, performance indicators, and historical trends. Inconsistencies become detectable and explainable instead of being silently absorbed.
Because Formetrix understands how an input was produced, switching devices or introducing a higher-accuracy reference (such as a clinical scan) does not break continuity. New inputs act as contextual anchors rather than resets, preserving interpretability across methods and time.
You are not locked to a specific scale brand, operating system, or device ecosystem. Your history remains intact, comparable, and usable even as measurement tools change.
When values jump or drift, Formetrix does not treat this as an unexplained anomaly. Changes are interpreted in context, with contributing factors surfaced whenever supporting data is available, instead of presenting raw outputs without explanation.
The result is not “more numbers,” but clearer understanding: fewer false alarms, preserved continuity across devices, and interpretation that adapts to goals, methods, and real-world variability over time.
📊 Are estimated values reliable?
Estimated values are designed to be consistent, interpretable, and trend-aware — not perfect substitutes for clinical devices. Formetrix uses structured anthropometric models to preserve continuity and context when direct measurements are unavailable. When higher-quality data becomes available, it integrates cleanly without breaking your history.
🧠 Will Formetrix AI replace coaches, doctors, or professionals?
No. Formetrix AI is built to support understanding and decision-making, not to replace professionals. It helps you interpret trends, ask better questions, and stay consistent — while clinical decisions and personalized treatment remain where they belong.
🔒 Who owns my data?
You do. Always.
Formetrix is built around data ownership and user control. Your data exists to serve your tracking, analysis, and long-term insight — nothing else.
In the current version, Formetrix uses secure accounts and synchronization so your data can remain consistent across devices. This means your data is stored in a pseudonymous form — linked to your account, but not publicly identifiable.
Your data is not sold, shared, or used for advertising. It is not accessed by third-party AI services as part of normal operation.
AI reasoning is designed to run as close to your data as possible, minimizing exposure and keeping analysis within the Formetrix system.
If Formetrix ever introduces features that require using data beyond your personal experience (such as improving models or global insights), this would only happen with explicit opt-in and with data that is fully anonymized and aggregated.
Looking ahead, Formetrix is moving toward a stronger offline-first and local-only model, where syncing becomes an explicit choice rather than a requirement.
📈 Why does Formetrix focus so much on trends instead of single numbers?
Because bodies don’t change in straight lines. Single readings are often noisy. Trends reveal direction, stability, and meaningful change — which is where real insight lives.
🕒 How often should I measure?
As often as needed to support your goal — not out of habit. Formetrix is designed around intentional measurement, where consistency matters more than frequency. For more guidance refer to How often to measure ?
🧠 What’s the difference between composition metrics and interpretation indexes?
Composition metrics describe what the body is physically composed of (such as fat mass, lean mass, water, or bone).
Interpretation indexes explain what those values mean in context — including proportion, symmetry, efficiency, or risk.
Composition metrics form the foundation. Interpretation indexes add meaning on top of them. Refer to Indexes in Formetrix for more details.
🎯 Can I change my goal after I’ve already started tracking?
Yes — but in Formetrix, goals are best understood as context anchors.
You can change a goal at any time, and your historical data will remain intact. However, because goals shape interpretation, trends, and prioritization, re-contextualization may take time to fully reflect the new objective.
For this reason, Formetrix is designed around multiple profiles per user.
Each profile represents a distinct tracking context with its own:
- primary goal
- measurement focus
- interpretation logic
- visual and analytical history
This allows you to track multiple objectives simultaneously without mixing signals — for example:
- body composition and performance in one profile
- visual progress or Body Studio tracking in another
- health monitoring, recovery, or specialized cases (e.g. hair or skin tracking) separately
While changing goals within a single profile is supported, creating separate profiles is the preferred approach when goals differ in nature or timeframe.
This keeps interpretation clean, trends stable, and progress meaningful. Refer to Profiles and History for more guidance.
